Certification and Certified Member Qualifications The Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) designation is available to qualified applicants. You must qualify in ONE of the categories listed below.
1.
Graduates
from approved Surgical Assistant Training Programs
(all CAAHEP Accredited SA Programs; Rochester, MN Mayo Clinic Training
Program; and Canton, OH Aultman Hospital Training Program).
2.
Medical
Graduates and Allied Health Professionals
- US or Foreign trained medical school graduates with appropriate
number of hours (2250) of surgery or surgical rotation and the following
documentation: one letter from a surgeon recommending the individual,
COPIES of documents of training as a surgeon or documentation of surgical
rotation for at least 2250 hours of assisting, and proof of having taken an
English equivalency examination. Licensed PAs and RNs with
appropriate number of hours of surgical first assisting (2250).
3.
US
Military Trained
– Individuals who present verifiable documentation of graduation from a
United States Military Program that emphasized surgical assisting. Once the application is received, you will be sent a confirmation postcard. Upon approval of the application, you will be sent all study material along with the scheduled exam dates. |top| The application process may take up to 60 days.
