PRESS RELEASE CERTIFIED SURGICAL ASSISTANTS GRANTED STUDY BY THE AGENCY FOR HEALTHCARE RESEARCH AND QUALITY The National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA) is proud to announce through their work with Dr. Dave Weldon (Congressman – FL) the receipt of a study to be conducted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) – the Nation’s lead Federal agency for research on health care quality, costs, outcomes, and patient safety. The language directing AHRQ to “evaluate the outcomes, relevant patient care and financial impact of alternative methodologies of utilization and reimbursement of certified surgical assistants (CSA’s) as recommended by the Government Accounting Office and report outcomes back to the committee” was contained in the Labor, Health and Human Services portion of the 2005 Consolidated Appropriations Bill, now Public Law 108-447. The AHRQ study strongly shows the commitment by the Congress to continue educating themselves on the issues facing CSA’s while considering future reimbursement options for the industry. NSAA is looking forward to their continued work with Dr. Weldon, other members of Congress and various federal agencies to further broaden the visibility of this Association and the practice of certified surgical assistants. If you have questions regarding this press release, please contact Ruth Helein at NSAA Headquarters. |
